Process Inquiry®

Process Inquiry is an essential method of communication based on elements of confrontation and reality orientation. Its focus is on learning processes of the individual, group, or organization and on inquiry with respect to the dynamics of their verbal interactions. The basic assumption of P.I. is that each of us has some understanding of wholeness but that we become conflicted or split from this wholeness by defense and avoidance mechanisms used to protect us from being hurt or rejected.

Central to our return to wholeness and happiness is honest inquiry, without judgment or pretense. Process Inquiry is a series of poignant questions and statements that extend the principles of life energy into subtle verbal explorations. Each inquiry leads beyond the verbiage of content themes to discover the deeper energy problems or possibilities. P.I. follows the energy thread from the superficial problem called the trace problem via the main themes or focal problem to the crucial issue, the essential problem.

The process of the inquiry itself is critical; we must stay fully present, because solving issues on a process versus content level involves real learning from direct experience. Process solution orientation is also synergistic. While many so-called content problems appear to be distinct, they are the result of the same disease process. Thus, inquiry into one problem from a process orientation may provide invaluable insight about any number of content issues.
